What is Deprescribing?

Deprescribing is the process of systematically discontinuing or reducing medications that are no longer necessary or may be causing harm. It's an essential part of optimizing your medication regimen and ensuring you're only taking what you truly need.

Benefits of Deprescribing

Reduced Medication Burden

Deprescribing helps individuals reduce the number of medications they take, leading to fewer pills to manage, fewer potential drug interactions, and lower healthcare costs.

Minimized Side Effects

By carefully discontinuing medications that may no longer be necessary, individuals can experience fewer side effects and a higher quality of life.

Improved Medication Effectiveness

Focusing on essential medications ensures that they work optimally, leading to better control of chronic conditions and improved overall health.

Improved Safety

Deprescribing mitigates the likelihood of adverse drug events and medication-related complications, a critical consideration, particularly for older adults who are at a higher risk for such concerns.
